East Bengal are getting busy in this summer transfer window with their latest addition to the squad being the 26-year-old Provat Lakra. The versatile defender will bring experience to the team's backline and his versatility can help them against big teams in the upcoming season.

East Bengal are slowly getting back into form each season. They won their first trophy in 12 years when they won the Super Cup last term. Their run in the Indian Super League wasn't all that inspiring but with the addition of these players, they will be hoping to do better.

Playing Career

Provat Lakra began his professional career with Southern Samity in 2016-17. He made 5 appearances for the club in the I-League 2nd Division. He then moved to Gokulam Kerala next season on loan to play in the I-league where he played 15 matches for the club.

In 2018, he signed with the ISL club NorthEast United FC. Lakra spent the next 5 seasons and made 36 appearances in the tournament for them. He was a regular starter for the Highlanders, playing a key role at right-back.

In last season, he joined Jamshedpur FC and made 15 appearances for the club. He started 11 matches and came on as a substitute 4 times. Lakra's career has been affected by injuries, preventing him from playing an entire ISL season unscathed so far.

Playing Style

Provat Lakra is a versatile defender who can play both left-back and right-back positions. He appeared in 15 ISL and three Kalinga Super Cup matches last season for Jamshedpur FC. He played a vital role for them in their run to the Kalinga Super Cup semifinals.

He registered a significant number of interceptions, blocks, recoveries, clearances, and successful duels and aerial duels for Jamshedpur FC in the ISL 2023-24 season. In his career, he has featured in a total of 51 matches in the Indian Super League.

However, considering he is a fullback on either side of the backline, he is not much of an attacking threat. As a result, neither does he have any goals nor assists to his name. Even so, his defensive abilities should be a valuable asset for the Torch Bearers.
