East Bengal are set to sign new midfielder ahead of the Kolkata Derby. The Red and Gold Brigade has roped in Spanish midfielder Victor Vazquez.
Victor Vazquez is coming in as a replacement for Borja Herrera, who is leaving the cup after their victorious Kalinga Super Cup campaign. Borja will join FC Goa, but the Kolkata giants are bringing in Vazquez, a player who has previously played with Lionel Messi.

Victor Vazquez is a Spanish midfielder who started his career at the La Masia Academy of FC Barcelona. Vazquez is 37-year-old and he is a central midfielder.
During his early days, Vazquez played along with Lionel Messi at the club. He also played two senior matches for Barcelona and scored one goal in it.
Vazquez played two matches for the Cules and scored a Champions League goal in the 2010-11 season with them, when he scored against Rubin Kazan in a 2-0 victory. Vazquez won two UEFA Champions League titles with Barcelona in 2008-09 and 2010-11 season.
After leaving Barcelona in 2011, Vazquez played four long seasons at Belgian outfit Club Brugge. He has then represented Mexican giants Cruz Azul, Qatari clubs Al Arabi and Umm Salal.
The midfielder has also played in the MLS and even played last season in American top-flight football. He played 57 matches for LA Galaxy, before joining another MLS club Toronto FC in 2022.
The veteran midfielder is known for his steel in the midfield and also has a decent passing range. Carles Cuadrat is an admirer of the player and Vazquez can become East Bengal's new engine in the midfield as Borja leaves the club.
Victor Vazquez will arrive in Kolkata within a couple of days. It is unsure whether he will play in the Kolkata derby as East Bengal restart their ISL campaign with a clash against Mohun Bagan on February 3.
