Why Al Hilal could terminate superstar Neymar's contract in January

Brazilian superstar Neymar's time in the Middle East might be cut short as reports suggest Al Hilal are considering an early termination of his contract.

The forward joined the Saudi Pro League side in 2023 on a lucrative two-year deal worth €150 million annually, but serious injuries have hampered his career in Saudi Arabia, raising doubts about his future at the club.

Neymar

Neymar's Journey Marked by Success and Setbacks

The 32-year-old first rose to global prominence at Santos in Brazil, where he amassed 136 goals across 225 appearances and won three league titles along with the prestigious Copa Libertadores.

His success quickly paved the way for a move to Europe, joining Barcelona in 2013. At Barca, the Brazilian formed one of the most formidable attacking trios in modern football history, alongside Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez.

Despite his triumphs at Barcelona, Neymar's aspirations for individual glory led him to Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in 2017 for a record-breaking fee. However, while he found substantial domestic success in France, Champions League glory eluded him and PSG during his tenure, despite several near-misses.

Neymar's move to Al Hilal

Seeking a new challenge and a fresh environment, the superstar forward from Brazil moved to Al Hilal in 2023 with high expectations. However, his spell in the Saudi Pro League has been turbulent.

In just seven appearances for the club, he suffered two serious injuries. Al Hilal had hoped he could bounce back quickly after returning from the last ACL injury. However, the latest hamstring injury has put big doubt on Neymar's ability to make an impact, leading them to reportedly consider parting ways with the player as soon as January.

Although he has publicly downplayed his injury's seriousness, hinting he plans to return soon, Al Hilal's management seems unconvinced. The club is reportedly exploring a financial settlement to release him, potentially making Neymar a free agent before the end of the season.

What's Next for Neymar?

The potential departure has ignited speculation around Neymar's next destination. Santos, his boyhood club, has shown interest, with the club president recently hinting at the possibility of a reunion.

Another option could be a reunion with Messi at Inter Miami in Major League Soccer (MLS). Messi, Neymar's former teammate from Barcelona, has reportedly reached out to gauge his interest in joining the American club.
