Chelsea's commanding 3-0 victory over Paris Saint-Germain in the final of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup marked a major milestone in the club's history.
It was their second triumph in the competition and the first in its new expanded 32-team format. But while celebrations erupted on the pitch and among fans, a curious detail later emerged-Chelsea were not handed the original Club World Cup trophy.

Instead, the version presented to the team during the ceremony was a replica. The original trophy, as it turns out, was not available at the final.
In football, replica trophies are commonly used for display purposes or public tours. However, they are typically secondary to the original, which holds symbolic and historical value. Clubs winning major competitions expect to at least be presented with the authentic version before returning it, as is tradition with several international trophies.
According to post-match reports, it had previously been left with former U.S. President Donald Trump during a visit by FIFA officials. Trump himself mentioned the matter in a light-hearted interview, suggesting the trophy had remained with him since earlier in the year and had not been returned in time for the final.
In an interview with DAZN, former U.S. President Donald Trump made light-hearted remarks about American soccer, suggesting he could issue an executive order to officially rename the sport from "soccer" to "football" in the United States.
Trump also made a surprising revelation regarding a piece of football history. According to him, FIFA President Gianni Infantino entrusted him with the original Club World Cup trophy - and seemingly never took it back.
"[Fifa] is doing fantastically well for [football in America], it's a growing sport, it is a great sport," Trump told DAZN.
"They said: 'Could you hold this trophy for a little while?'. We put it in the Oval Office and then I said: 'When are you going to pick up the trophy', and [Infantino] said: 'We're never going to pick it up, you can have it forever in the Oval Office'."
"And they actually made a new one [for Chelsea] but right now [the original] is in the Oval," the USA president concluded.
