Why Erling Haaland could reject new Manchester City contract?
Erling Haaland, Manchester City’s prolific goal-scoring sensation, may be reconsidering any new contract proposals from the club, despite enjoying a dream run in the Premier League.
The 24-year-old Norwegian striker has had an extraordinary start to the 2023/24 season, scoring ten goals in just eight appearances across all competitions. Pep Guardiola's side aims to secure their fifth consecutive league title. Haaland’s incredible form has already cemented his status as one of the best strikers in the world, having scored 100 goals in 106 appearances since his 2022 move from Borussia Dortmund.

With Haaland’s current contract running until 2027, Manchester City are keen to secure his future for even longer. However, recent reports from Spain suggest that the superstar forward might be reluctant to commit beyond his current deal.
While Haaland reportedly feels happy at City, his desire for new challenges and personal growth could prompt him to explore other options in the coming years. Several European football giants, including Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and Paris Saint-Germain, are known admirers of the Norwegian international and could capitalize on any hesitation from the player to extend his stay in Manchester.
As speculated by reports, one potential option for Haaland is to negotiate a new deal that includes a £100 million release clause. This would allow him to keep his options open and potentially facilitate a move to another top club in the future.
For now, however, there is no indication that Haaland is looking to leave Manchester City immediately. Given his rapid rise and growing superstar status, a move to another European heavyweight is something that may become a possibility in the future.
Looking ahead, Haaland is expected to return to the pitch in City’s upcoming UEFA Champions League fixture against Slovan Bratislava. He experienced some discomfort during their recent 1-1 draw with Newcastle, but after training normally, he’s likely to lead the attack once again.
