Why has Valencia vs Real Madrid, La Liga 2024-25 Match Been Postponed? Know Details

The highly anticipated La Liga match - Valencia vs Real Madrid, scheduled for Saturday, November 2, 2024, at the Mestalla Stadium, has been postponed due to the devastating effects of the DANA storm in Spain's Valencian Community.

Torrential rains have led to catastrophic flooding, claiming over 100 lives, with many others missing and vast areas severely damaged. The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), in collaboration with La Liga, made the decision to delay the match to prioritize public safety and pay respects to those affected.

Valencia initiated the request for postponement with support from various football organizations, given the unprecedented destruction across the region. This DANA (Isolated Depression at High Levels) has led to extensive property damage and disrupted daily life throughout the Valencian Community.

This has left the city of Valencia and surrounding areas unfit for a large-scale sporting event. The Spanish government has declared three days of national mourning to honor the lives lost in this tragedy, adding to the call for solidarity and respect during this difficult time.

The postponement extends beyond Valencia and Real Madrid's fixture. Other matches, including Villarreal vs. Rayo Vallecano in La Liga and several Segunda División games, such as Castellón vs. Racing de Ferrol and Eldense vs. Huesca, have also been called off.

Additionally, the Liga F women's matches, including Valencia's game against Deportivo La Coruna, have been postponed as part of broader safety measures in the flood-affected region. In a show of solidarity, Real Madrid released a statement expressing condolences.

They also announced a joint fundraising campaign with the Real Madrid Foundation and the Spanish Red Cross to support the flood victims. "This catastrophe has placed many families in a critical situation, and it is essential to act quickly and in solidarity," the statement reads. Valencia, too, expressed its heartfelt sympathies, emphasizing the importance of focusing on the community's recovery.

Although Real Madrid's packed schedule creates challenges for rescheduling, the humanitarian crisis has rightly taken priority. A new date for the match has not been set, as the RFEF continues to monitor the situation closely. In a tribute to the victims, La Liga has announced a minute of silence before all matches this weekend.
