Why is France Coach Didier Deschamps not present in Norway Match? Heartbreaking Reason Revealed
Norway are up against France in a crucial FIFA World Cup 2026 Group I encounter on Friday, but the match will be overshadowed by the absence of France coach Didier Deschamps.
Didier Deschamps will not be on the touchline for France as the two sides meet at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts. The 57-year-old French national team coach is returning home to attend the funeral of his mother, who passed away earlier this week.

The French Football Federation (FFF) confirmed the news on Tuesday, stating that Deschamps learned of his mother's death that morning and immediately travelled back to France.
In an official statement, the FFF expressed its support: "At this incredibly difficult time, the Federation wishes Didier Deschamps strength and offers its full support to him and his family."
Assistant coach Guy Stéphan, a long-standing member of Deschamps' backroom staff, has been placed in temporary charge of the team for the Norway fixture and will lead preparations until the head coach's return.
Deschamps has guided France since 2012, delivering the 2018 World Cup title and reaching the 2022 final. This tournament was expected to be his final major campaign before stepping down. His absence comes at a sensitive moment in the group stage, although France have already secured progression to the knockout rounds with impressive early performances. The squad, which includes several experienced internationals, is said to be united in its desire to secure a positive result in honour of their absent manager.
Norway, led by talisman Erling Haaland, remains a dangerous opponent capable of exploiting any disruption. However, France's strength in depth and tactical discipline under Stéphan should ensure continuity in their approach.
France have already qualified for the Round of 32 stages after winning their first two matches.
