Indian football fans have been left frustrated as Spanish top-division La Liga matches have suddenly gone off the air.
GXR had acquired exclusive broadcasting rights for La Liga in the Indian subcontinent in a six-year deal spanning from the 2024-25 season to 2029-30.

However, just a few months into the contract, the partnership hit a significant roadblock, leading to LaLiga cutting off its signal to GXR. The Indian fans are unable to watch Real Madrid and Barcelona matches, which has been a major issue.
Adding to the turmoil, GXR also secured broadcast rights for France's Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 for four seasons (2024-25 to 2027-28), but coverage of Ligue 1 has also been disrupted for the past two weeks. On the other hand, Italy's Serie A matches remain available on GXR's platform, highlighting the inconsistency in the broadcaster's operations.
The root cause behind the non-telecast of matches in India? A dispute between LaLiga and Dubai-based media company Galaxy Racer (GXR) over non-payment issues.
GXR cited "technical issues" as the reason for LaLiga's sudden disappearance, posting on its official X handle.
"Hey GXR fans, unfortunately, due to technical issues, we won't be streaming LALIGA matches this weekend. We're working on resolving this as quickly as possible to bring you back the action you love! Thank you for your patience and support," they stated.
However, reports from SportBusiness indicate that the real problem lies in financial disputes. Sources suggest that LaLiga suspended its broadcast in India due to GXR's failure to meet its payment obligations. Discussions are reportedly ongoing between GXR and the leagues to find a resolution.
As of now, Indian football fans remain in limbo, hoping for a swift resolution to the dispute. The hiatus in this broadcasting issue is annoying for the fans, and by all means, a swift resolution is solicited.
