Why is Lionel Messi not playing for Inter Miami but available for Argentina in WC Qualifiers?

By Chaithanya Gulapala

Lionel Messi is one of the biggest icons in the football fraternity and millions of
fans admire his finesse and creativity during the passage of play. Scores of fans
turn up in numbers just to watch his dribbling skills, close ball control and
playmaking ability.

The 7-time Ballon d'Or winner, who has tremendous charisma on the field hasn't
been a regular feature for his current MLS club, Inter Miami F.C. of late due to
muscular pains. For the record, he played just 37 minutes for Inter Miami since
September 3 and has missed the club's last five out of six games.

Inter Miami fans who purchased tickets to watch Messi in action for the MLS were
left utterly disappointed recently. It remains to be seen when he will recuperate
and play for the MLS club again.

He was called up for Argentina qualifiers despite his injury issues. When he
featured in Argentina's starting XI against Paraguay in the World Cup qualifying
fixture, some fans started to question Messi for prioritizing Argentina over Inter
Miami.

However, the veteran footballer marked his presence on the field for a few minutes.
Messi came in as a substitute to place Julián Álvarez in the 52nd minute when
Argentina already opened their account at the Monumental de Nuñez Stadium in
Buenos Aires. Argentina won the game by 1-0.

Messi was never expected to turn up against Paraguay since he was facing injuries
for weeks but his short appearance surprised many. His inclusion in Argentina's
recent fixture doesn't guarantee him in the next game against Peru due to his
existing injury concerns, albeit he was seen in the national team's practice session
recently.

The veteran footballer took part in the practice session at Argentina's training
ground but felt discomfort straightaway as he experienced muscular pains in his
right leg.

Argentina will lock horns with Peru on October 18 (Wednesday, 7:30 am IST) at
Estadio Nacional de Lima, Peru. There is still no clarity on Messi's fitness and
remains a doubtful starter for Argentina's upcoming game.
