Why were two Crystal Palace players taken to Hospital after their FA Cup Win over Manchester City?

By MyKhel Staff

Crystal Palace's historic 1-0 victory over Manchester City in the 2025 FA Cup final at Wembley Stadium marked the club's first major trophy in its 120-year history.

Eberechi Eze scored the decisive goal in the 16th minute, capitalizing on a swift counter-attack initiated by Jean-Philippe Mateta and Daniel Muñoz. Despite Manchester City's dominance in possession and multiple scoring opportunities, including a missed penalty by Omar Marmoush, Crystal Palace's defense, led by goalkeeper Dean Henderson, held firm to secure the win.

The triumph was bittersweet as key players Marc Guehi and Adam Wharton were hospitalised following their FA Cup tripmph.

Marc Guehi: Eye Injury and Hospitalization

Team captain Marc Guéhi suffered a significant blow to his eye during the second half, raising concerns about a potential fractured eye socket. Despite the injury, Guéhi participated in the trophy presentation alongside former captain Joel Ward. Subsequent medical evaluations revealed severe bruising but no fracture, and he was discharged around midnight. His availability for Crystal Palace's remaining Premier League fixtures remains uncertain, though he is expected to be fit for England's upcoming matches in June.

Adam Wharton: Concussion Protocol

Midfielder Adam Wharton, recently returned from an ankle injury, played a pivotal role in the final. However, he suffered a head injury after blocking a shot from Kevin De Bruyne, necessitating concussion assessments. Wharton was substituted in the 87th minute and taken to the hospital, missing the post-match celebrations. He later shared a photo from his hospital bed, humorously noting, "Apparently we won the FA Cup. Eaglessssssssss" .

Both players' conditions will be monitored closely, with updates expected regarding their participation in upcoming matches.
