Xabi Alonso has been widely tipped as the priority for Liverpool as the Reds look to replace Jurgen Klopp. Klopp dropped a bombshell last week by announcing his departure from the club at the end of the season. The German claimed that he is running out of energy and has therefore made up his mind to step down from the Anfield hot seat.
Replacing a manager of Klopp’s caliber is almost next to impossible and Liverpool have to hope that they can manage to do that. A host of names have been discussed as potential replacements for the German but Xabi Alonso is the frontrunner for the job.

Alonso knows Liverpool inside out and loves the club
Xabi Alonso was a top player during his playing days who had all the success at both club level as well as for Spain. He played for Real Sociedad, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Liverpool but always mentioned that he loved playing for the Reds the most. Alonso is widely admired by the Anfield faithful and the feeling is mutual as the Spaniard also loves the club to its core. He also understands the club and its people which makes him a perfect candidate for the Reds job.
Alonso is a tactical genius
Xabi Alonso has done a phenomenal job at Bayer Leverkusen so far since taking over at the BayArena. The Spaniard made a strong impressive during his stint at Real Madrid under 14s and Real Sociedad B but the job he has done with Leverkusen is nothing short of extraordinary. Before his arrival, Leverkusen were 17th in Bundesliga and he quickly turned the fortunes of the club around after taking over. Leverkusen finished sixth in Bundesliga last season and also led them to the Europa League semis. Leverkusen are the only team unbeaten in Europe this season and could be the first manager to stop Bayern Munich to the Bundesliga title since Jurgen Klopp.
Similarities with Klopp
Xabi Alonso has not been in management for long but his early signs show that he hs a lot in common with Klopp. The Spaniard also plays a high-intensity pressing game who always play on the front foot. Just like Klopp, his transfers at Leverkusen have all been wonderful and he has also managed to bring the most out of his players. Liverpool still have a lot to do in terms of rebuilding the club and Alonso looks perfect for the job.
