Kerala Sports Minister V Abdurahiman has reaffirmed that the Argentina national football team, led by superstar Lionel Messi, will visit the state as planned.

Speaking to the media on Saturday, the minister confirmed that the financial hurdles around the proposed friendly match have now been cleared, keeping football fans' hopes alive across the region.

The clarification comes amidst months of speculation after sections of the media claimed that Argentina had pulled out of their scheduled trip due to contractual issues. Both Minister Abdurahiman and the event's sponsor, Reporter Broadcasting Company, had previously rubbished those claims, asserting that the agreement with the Argentina Football Association (AFA) remained intact.

"The sponsor has paid the amount now. There is no other obstacles in this regard. As per the FIFA window, October-November is the time allotted for the world teams to take part in such events. So, the same time is likely to be allotted for us also," the minister said.

He added that the team would be hosted as state guests during their time in Kerala, with the government responsible for their security, accommodation, and other logistical arrangements. While the exact date of the match is yet to be finalised, it will be officially announced in a joint statement by the AFA and the sponsor following the recent payment.

"The sponsors said they settled the contract amount to be paid before the match. The government has no connection with any financial dealings in this regard. The contract is between the sponsor and the team management," he clarified.

Abdurahiman had also taken to Facebook on Friday to stir excitement, posting a brief message that read, "Messi will come." He also extended his gratitude to Reporter Broadcasting Company for fulfilling their commitment and enabling the continuation of the event.

The match is likely to be staged at Thiruvananthapuram's Greenfield Stadium, which meets all international standards and is expected to provide a world-class experience for players and spectators alike.

Highlighting the broader impact of the event, Abdurahiman said, "The only objective of the government is to instill fresh hopes in the state sports sector by bringing the world champions."

If all goes as planned, Kerala could witness one of the most historic sporting events in its history later this year-with Lionel Messi and the reigning world champions gracing its soil.
