Kerala's Sports Minister V Abdurahiman has reaffirmed that Argentine football legend Lionel Messi is scheduled to visit the state later this year, firmly quashing circulating rumours and online speculation suggesting otherwise.

Speaking to the media on Monday, the minister emphasized that Messi and his team are expected to arrive in Kerala either in October or November to participate in a friendly football match.

He dismissed the recent doubts being raised on social media, calling them "baseless" and "unnecessary distractions."

"There's absolutely no uncertainty about Messi's visit. The noise on social media is unfounded and is only adding fuel to unwarranted controversies. Welcoming a global icon like Messi is a moment of pride for Kerala," Abdurahiman said.

Over the weekend, he had already addressed concerns stemming from some media reports, which hinted at a possible withdrawal of Argentina's national football team from the proposed event.

He reiterated on Saturday that there had been no change in plans and that the match would go ahead as scheduled.

According to the minister, the event is being organized in collaboration with Reporter Broadcasting Company, the official sponsor.

He stated that the sponsor has fulfilled all obligations outlined in their agreement with the Argentina Football Association (AFA), and preparations are proceeding accordingly.

Anto Augustine, Managing Director of Reporter Broadcasting Company, also confirmed that every contractual requirement specified by the AFA has been met. He added that a formal announcement regarding the date of the fixture is expected soon.

As excitement builds across the state, fans await official confirmation with bated breath, hoping to witness one of football's greatest players grace Kerala's soil in what could be a historic sporting moment for the region.
