Will Neymar Play in the World Cup 2026? Brazil Star's Latest Injury Status Revealed

Brazil is gearing up for their highly anticipated 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign, but their preparations have hit a stumbling block concerning their star player.

The national team is scheduled to play crucial warm-up friendly matches against Panama on May 31 and against Egypt on June 6 before their World Cup tournament officially begins.

Will Neymar Play in the World Cup 2026 Brazil Star s Latest Injury Status Revealed

Drawn into Group C, Carlo Ancelotti's side will face Morocco on June 13 at MetLife Stadium, followed by fixtures against Haiti on June 20 and Scotland on June 24. However, the immediate focus is on the fitness of their 34-year-old talisman and all-time leading goalscorer, Neymar, ahead of their first friendly test.

Will Neymar Play Against Panama?

It is highly doubtful that Neymar will feature for Brazil against Panama. The forward missed Brazil's training session in Teresopolis on Wednesday and was subsequently taken to a clinic in the city for additional medical tests on a calf injury.

The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) detailed the injury setback, which Neymar's parent club, Santos, has described as a "minor calf" issue. In an interview last week, Rodrigo Zogaib, the head of medical at Santos, stated that Neymar had "some swelling" but was on schedule to return to fitness within a week. Despite this optimistic timeline, the latest injury has already forced Neymar to miss Santos's last two matches: a 2-2 draw with San Lorenzo on May 20 and a 3-2 defeat to Gremio on May 23. Given his absence from training just days before the Panama clash on May 31, risk management will likely keep him sidelined.

Brazil Team News & Injury Updates

Brazil: Manager Carlo Ancelotti will have to navigate this international break with extreme caution regarding his captain's fitness. Neymar, who last played for the international side in 2023, has a troubling recent medical history. He has faced several injury issues in recent seasons, most notably rupturing the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and meniscus in his left knee in October 2023. With the World Cup campaign getting underway in just over two weeks, Ancelotti's priority will be ensuring his all-time leading goalscorer is fully recovered for the Group C opener against Morocco, rather than risking him in the upcoming friendlies.
