Lionel Messi is the most important player for the Argentina team who won the World Cup only one and a half years ago. However, in their latest Copa America group stage match against Chile, his performance seemed to lack the regular charisma of the Argentine to which fans have been accustomed.
Later, coach Lionel Scaloni and Messi both said that he had a sore throat and a fever in the last few days. Additionally, he was also playing against Chile with a minor injury on his right thigh. Messi has now missed a training session before their next Copa America match against Peru due to this injury.

He could miss this match and with Argentina already qualified for the knockout stages after two wins in their first two matches, Scaloni could decide to rest some other regular players along with Messi. Argentina will be expected to field a much-changed lineup against Peru in their final Copa America group stage match.
In Messi's absence, Inter Milan’s highest goalscorer Lautaro Martinez, and young talents like Manchester United's Alejandro Garnacho and Manchester City's Julian Alvarez could be taking on the centre stage. Garnacho, who enjoyed a good breakout season at club level, could make his first start of the tournament on the left wing.
Lautaro Martinez, who has scored twice as a substitute, could lead the attack. On the other hand, veteran Angel Di Maria could be given rest along with Messi. In midfield, Guido Rodríguez, Exequiel Palacios, and Alexis Mac Allister could form a new-look trio in the engine room.
Gonzalo Montiel, Nicolas Otamendi, German Pezzella, and Marcos Acuna should make up the four-man backline. Franco Armani could start under the bar while regular starter Emiliano Martinez could be given some much-needed rest.
Argentina Probable XI vs Peru:
