Wolves Head Coach Vitor Pereira Voices Frustration Over Limited Transfer Activity This Summer

Vitor Pereira, head coach of Wolves, has expressed his frustration regarding the club's lack of transfer activity this summer. With key players departing, he emphasises the need for squad reinforcements to ensure a competitive start to the Premier League season.

Wolves head coach Vitor Pereira has voiced his concerns over the club's transfer activities this summer. Having joined Wolves in December 2024, when the team was struggling at 19th place in the Premier League, Pereira quickly made an impact. He led Wolves to safety with five games remaining in the 2024-25 season, achieving six consecutive top-flight wins for the first time since 1970.

Despite these achievements, Pereira is focused on avoiding a repeat of last season's struggles as they prepare for the 2025-26 campaign. "My ambition is to be in the middle of the table and not always worry about the bottom places. It's to look upwards," he told Lusa news agency. However, he expressed concern over losing key players like Matheus Cunha and Rayan Ait-Nouri to Manchester United and Manchester City, respectively.

Pereira Frustrated by Wolves' Transfer Activity

The departures of Cunha and Ait-Nouri are not isolated incidents; Nelson Semedo and Pablo Sarabia also left Wolves after their contracts expired in June. Pereira emphasised that maintaining a strong relationship with fans and reinforcing the squad are crucial to avoiding relegation battles. "We've created a relationship, a relationship that I hope will continue," he stated, highlighting the importance of meeting fan expectations.

Pereira stressed that starting the season competitively is vital to staying out of relegation zones. So far, Wolves have only added Spanish winger Fer Lopez from Celta Vigo and Jorgen Strand Larsen on a permanent basis after his successful loan spell last season. The club has been linked with Fluminense's Jhon Arias, who impressed at the Club World Cup.

Pereira remains hopeful about new signings soon, stating, "I want to prepare a team to start the league competitively, but at the moment it hasn't been possible." He anticipates news about potential additions that could enhance squad quality in the coming days.

Wolves' Premier League journey begins on August 16 against Pep Guardiola's Manchester City at Molineux. As they gear up for this challenging opener, Pereira aims to ensure his team is well-prepared and competitive from the outset.

Pereira's short tenure has seen him build a strong rapport with Wolves supporters. He believes this connection will be instrumental in fulfilling growing expectations among fans. "Because they're starting to create expectations now, naturally," he noted, underscoring the need for reinforcements to remain competitive.

The coach reiterated his commitment to keeping Wolves competitive throughout the season. He acknowledged that escaping relegation zones becomes increasingly difficult as campaigns progress without early momentum.

As Wolves face significant challenges ahead of their new season opener against Manchester City, Pereira remains determined to strengthen his squad and maintain their Premier League status without enduring another relegation scare.
