Wolves Fight Back To Draw At Brentford As Edwards Praises Unity And Resilience

Wolves recovered from a 2-0 deficit to draw 2-2 with Brentford, with Tolu Arokodare equalising after coming on. Rob Edwards praised the team for energy, unity, and late pressure, highlighting the impact of substitutes in a tight relegation battle.

Wolves extended their Premier League unbeaten run to three league matches after a 2-2 draw at Brentford, fighting back from two goals down to earn a point that keeps hope alive in the relegation battle despite projections that still show a tough path ahead.

Michael Kayode and Igor Thiago scored in the first half for Brentford, leaving Wolves 2-0 behind and appearing in serious trouble, before Adam Armstrong and substitute Tolu Arokodare struck back to secure a result that highlighted both character and resilience from the league’s bottom side.

Wolves fight back earns draw at Brentford

Armstrong pulled one back before the interval with a composed finish past Caoimhin Kelleher, then Arokodare levelled with a header just three minutes after coming on, as Wolves again turned a heavy deficit into a draw, echoing their February comeback against Arsenal in the Premier League.

That means Wolves have now fought back to draw the last two Premier League games in which they were 2+ goals down, after previously losing 22 league matches in a row when trailing by at least two, underlining a recent shift in mentality despite their current position in the relegation battle.

The Opta supercomputer continues to predict Wolves will be relegated in the 2025-26 season simulations, yet Rob Edwards focused on performance levels rather than probabilities, praising a display that brought energy, pressure and chances, including efforts that struck both the post and the crossbar.

Yeah, we were. I thought the energy in the stadium and the feeling in the stadium was we were the team on top, we were pushing, Edwards told Sky Sports. We hit the post, we hit the bar, and I thought it was an excellent performance. I'm really proud of the lads. It's hard to say when you've been 2-0 down but I felt we could've won the game tonight. I'm really proud after coming back against this team away from home. It's really difficult, you can see how well they're doing this season.

Wolves unity, spirit and relegation battle focus

Edwards highlighted the atmosphere around the club, stressing that togetherness remains strong even with Wolves at the bottom of the Premier League table, and argued that the group is following the right approach to rediscover consistent winning form over the rest of the campaign.

It shows the fight, the courage, the quality, the spirit that's in the group. The club at the moment, even though we're in this position, it actually feels united, and we all know what we want to do going forward. We want to find a winning team again and there's a long way to go, but we're going the right way about it.

Wolves substitutes, Arokodare impact and Premier League statistics

Arokodare’s contribution from the bench pleased Edwards most, as the forward not only scored the equaliser but also hit the crossbar later, taking the striker to three Premier League goals for 2025-26, all against London sides, with two of those coming as levellers after stepping off the bench.

The players are, and we owe it to the football club, ourselves, the fans to keep fighting all the way until the 38th game, so we'll do that, Edwards added on Wolves' fighting spirit. We spoke a lot today about the impact the subs can have, and they have been in recent weeks, whether that is scoring goals or having animpact, and we got that again tonight. All the lads that came on were really effective. It is a squad game. Really pleased for Tolu, but all the lads were great.

Wolves Premier League schedule and relegation battle run-in

Wolves now prepare for a crucial run of fixtures that could shape the relegation battle, with matches against West Ham, Leeds United and Tottenham coming next, though Edwards and the squad face an unusual 25-day break before returning to league action on 10 April.

We know that's a big game [West Ham], they all are, Edwards said. We'll get some time off, and then there will be a mixture of good training weeks and a friendly in there as well to make sure we prepare in the right way. We've never had a 25-day break in the season before, so it will be a new one for all of us.

Wolves leave Brentford still at the foot of the Premier League but with an extended unbeaten run, a record of recent comebacks from heavy deficits, growing influence from substitutes like Arokodare and a clear sense of unity, as Edwards points towards careful preparation and continued fight for survival.
