Krejci Remains Optimistic As Wolves Fight For Premier League Survival

Ladislav Krejci expresses cautious optimism as Wolves push for a Premier League survival bid. With back-to-back wins lifting them to 16 points, the team faces Brentford and other relegation rivals in a critical run-in. The goal is simple: seize any chance to finish the season strongly and avoid relegation.

Brentford chase European qualification while Wolves fight to avoid relegation when the teams meet on Monday, in a Premier League clash shaped by contrasting ambitions, shifting momentum and an Opta supercomputer that still predicts Wolves will drop into the Championship.

Wolves arrive on 16 points after successive league wins against Aston Villa and Liverpool, yet still sit adrift at the bottom and trail 17th-placed Nottingham Forest by 13 points, with the Opta model rating their survival prospects at zero despite signs of improvement under Rob Edwards.

Krejci: Wolves Still Have a Chance

Ladislav Krejci stressed that the squad remain focused only on staying in the Premier League, with no attention on what might follow next season, as Wolves prepare for Brentford before a crucial run against fellow relegation rivals Leeds United, West Ham and Tottenham after the international break. "Our goals are clear. We still have a chance, even if it's one per cent, it's still a possibility, so this is our goal," Krejci said. "This is how we will take it till the end of the season, and if we have the chance to fight for it, I will be the first in line to do it."

Krejci underlined the shared attitude inside the club, insisting no one is looking beyond the current campaign while survival remains mathematically possible. "We will be crazy, and also disrespectful to the club and to the fans, if we speak about what could be next season, because the season is not finished, and we are still involved. This is not just how I am thinking, but it's how all the people around here are thinking."

On the opposite side, Brentford continue to target European qualification in Keith Andrews' first season in charge, seeking to respond in the league after a penalty shoot-out defeat to West Ham in the FA Cup fifth round that followed a goalless Premier League draw with Bournemouth and left players managing both physical and emotional fatigue.

Andrews explained that the Brentford group have been recovering from that demanding cup tie, which went beyond 120 minutes for several players, and wants a positive reaction against Wolves to keep the push for a European place in the 2026-27 season on track. "The squad are dusting themselves down after the disappointment ofgoing out of the FA Cup. They gave everything," Andrews said. "It was a huge physical exertion from the players, especially those who played 120 or more minutes, and then the emotions of going out in the manner that we did."

Assessing Wolves, Andrews pointed to both frustration and quality in their campaign so far, referencing Rob Edwards' previous promotion work and the recent upturn in performances. "On facing Wolves, Andrews added:They've clearly had a frustrating season, and they would've had higher aspirations than what they've produced. Rob has built teams in his relatively young managerial career that have been really good and had promotions, with spirit and fight. They've got some talented players, for sure. I'm not particularly surprised that they have been playing really well for a number of weeks now."

Brentford vs Wolves Premier League form, records and probabilities

Brentford hold a strong recent record against Wolves, staying unbeaten across the last four league meetings with three wins and one draw, and are aiming to secure a league double over Edwards' side for the first time since the 2015-16 Championship season, although home form has dipped with two defeats in their previous three Premier League fixtures at the Gtech Community Stadium.

The Bees had earlier lost only one of their first 11 home league games this season, winning seven and drawing three, and have not suffered back-to-back league defeats at home since February 2025, yet their attacking profile remains efficient rather than dominant, with 304 shots placing them among the league's lowest totals but 44 goals giving them the best shot conversion rate in the division at 14.5 per cent.

Wolves endured a 5-3 defeat in this exact fixture last season, ending a five-match unbeaten away league run at Brentford that had included three wins and two draws, but Edwards' squad now travel with momentum after winning their last two Premier League matches, having previously recorded just one win across 32 league games, a sequence that contained eight draws and 23 defeats.

If Wolves win at Brentford, they could become the first team to claim three successive Premier League victories while starting each of those matchdays bottom of the table since Leicester City achieved that feat in April 2015, adding further weight to the sense that the current run, though still overshadowed by the Opta relegation forecast, is offering at least a small statistical platform for a survival push.

Outcome Opta win probability
Brentford 64.2%
Draw 19.1%
Wolves 16.7%

Brentford vs Wolves Premier League players to watch

Igor Thiago carries Brentford's main goal threat after scoring twice against West Ham in the FA Cup, moves that took Igor Thiago to 21 goals from 39 appearances in all competitions for the club, with Opta data showing that only Sergio Aguero, who reached 20 goals in 36 games for Manchester City, hit 20 goals in fewer matches among South American players in the Premier League era.

For Wolves, Rodrigo Gomes has developed a reputation as an impact substitute, with four of Rodrigo Gomes' five Premier League goals for the club coming from the bench, including all three league goals this season, and among players with at least five competition goals, only Matt Derbyshire, at 90 per cent, and Fabio Carvalho, at 83 per cent, have a higher share of strikes as substitutes than Gomes' 80 per cent.

Both teams therefore enter this Brentford vs Wolves Premier League meeting with clear objectives and contrasting pressures, as Brentford look to maintain a European push built on efficient finishing and solid home form over the season, while Wolves chase an unlikely escape that would defy the Opta supercomputer and depend on extending their recent surge in results into a longer sustained run.
