Chelsea's Unbeaten Streak Concludes As Manchester City Extends Lead In Women's Super League

Manchester City solidifies their position at the top of the Women's Super League following Chelsea's first defeat since May 2024. Everton's victory over Chelsea marks a significant shift in the league standings.

Manchester City extended their lead at the top of the Women's Super League to six points with a 3-0 win over Leicester City. This victory was significant as Chelsea, their closest rivals, experienced their first league loss since May 2024. Man City's breakthrough came in the 74th minute when Khadija Shaw capitalised on Celeste Boureille's error to score.

Shaw continued her impressive performance by scoring again with a header from Lauren Hemp's cross nine minutes later. She then assisted substitute Kerolin, who scored the third goal during stoppage time. Meanwhile, Chelsea missed an opportunity to narrow the gap after suffering a defeat against Everton.

Chelsea's Streak Ends; Man City Leads WSL

Everton secured a 1-0 victory over Chelsea at Kingsmeadow, marking Chelsea's first WSL defeat under Sonia Bompastor. Honoka Hayashi scored the decisive goal in the 12th minute, converting Toni Payne's cross. Despite late efforts from Chelsea, including a deflected corner and a header hitting the crossbar, Everton held firm for the win.

Chelsea's record-breaking unbeaten run ended after 35 matches. They have now failed to win three consecutive league games for the first time since starting the 2018-19 season with three draws. Everton also broke an eight-game losing streak away against Chelsea and ended an eight-match winless run in the competition.

Manchester City made history by becoming the first team in WSL history to achieve eight consecutive wins without conceding against the same opponent. They are also only the third team to secure nine victories in their first ten matches of a WSL season, joining Arsenal (2018-19 and 2019-20) and Chelsea (2022-23 and 2024-25).

The Citizens' remarkable performance has set them apart this season, showcasing their dominance in the league. Their consistent form has put them in a strong position as they aim for further success in upcoming matches.
