Sony SIX, the official broadcaster of the World Cup in India, opened their coverage with pre-match show "Cafe Rio" with two footballers and Bollywood actor John Abraham as experts.
The show was hosted by Gaurav Kapoor, who is the regular anchor for Indian Premier League (IPL) pre-game shows on the same channel. He was joined by MTV India's VJ Gaelyn Mendonca. However, the discussion on the show draw criticism from fans through Twitter.
The football experts on the show were England's Peter Crouch and Frenchman Mikael Silvestre.
'Cafe Rio' started at 11 PM IST on Thursday (June 12), 30 minutes ahead of the Opening Ceremony in Sao Paulo. Brazil-Croatia match began at 1.30 AM IST.
"Still reeling from that horrendous pre show last night. Scarred me for life," wrote one of the fans about 'Cafe Rio'. On Twitter #CafeRio was still trending Friday morning.
Here are some of the tweets aimed at 'Cafe Rio' and its hosts
Can we please just show the games live and get rid of #CafeRio ..plan to switch on only when game is on

This pre-show will ensure that everybody falls asleep before 1.30 am.

Cafe Rio is a conspiracy to ensure Indians stop watching football and stick to cricket.

Dear Sony Six. This is football world cup and not ur domestic t20 tournament. Chalo bulawa aaya hai to wrap ur pre-show and go home.

Sony Six preview show is pathetic...gaurav kapoor and his boring jokes are only good for IPL not football World Cup! #WorldCup2014
