World Cup: Fans blast Sony Six's 'pathetic' 'Cafe Rio' pre-game show

Bangalore, June 13: FIFA World Cup 2014 was off to a perfect start for Brazil but it was not the same for official TV broadcaster "Sony SIX" in India with football fans in the country blasting the channel's pre-match show last night.

Sony SIX, the official broadcaster of the World Cup in India, opened their coverage with pre-match show "Cafe Rio" with two footballers and Bollywood actor John Abraham as experts.

The show was hosted by Gaurav Kapoor, who is the regular anchor for Indian Premier League (IPL) pre-game shows on the same channel. He was joined by MTV India's VJ Gaelyn Mendonca. However, the discussion on the show draw criticism from fans through Twitter.

The football experts on the show were England's Peter Crouch and Frenchman Mikael Silvestre.

'Cafe Rio' started at 11 PM IST on Thursday (June 12), 30 minutes ahead of the Opening Ceremony in Sao Paulo. Brazil-Croatia match began at 1.30 AM IST.

"Still reeling from that horrendous pre show last night. Scarred me for life," wrote one of the fans about 'Cafe Rio'. On Twitter #CafeRio was still trending Friday morning.
