Wounded Liverpool Pose Significant Challenge For Inter Milan, Warns Marcus Thuram Ahead Of Champions League Clash

Marcus Thuram cautions that Liverpool, despite their poor form, are still a dangerous opponent for Inter Milan in the Champions League. With both teams facing critical matches, the stakes are high.

Inter Milan are set to face a struggling Liverpool team in the Champions League on Tuesday. Despite Liverpool's poor form, Marcus Thuram remains cautious about underestimating the Premier League champions. Liverpool have had a tough start to the 2025-26 season, currently sitting ninth in the league after a series of disappointing results since late September.

After winning their first five league matches, Arne Slot's side has only managed two victories in their last ten games, including four consecutive losses. Their European campaign hasn't been much better, with Liverpool ranked 13th out of 36 teams. Their last Champions League match ended in a heavy 4-1 defeat at home to PSV.

Thuram: Wounded Liverpool Are a Threat to Inter

Following a 3-3 draw with Leeds United over the weekend, Mohamed Salah expressed his frustration in a post-match interview, claiming he felt unsupported by the club during their struggles. Salah was not used in that match and has now been excluded from Liverpool's squad for the game at Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, sparking speculation about a potential January exit from Anfield.

Meanwhile, Inter Milan are performing well in Serie A, sitting just one point behind the leaders. They have also won four of their five Champions League matches this season. According to Opta's supercomputer predictions, Inter have a 5% chance of winning the European title, ranking them seventh among contenders.

When asked if Inter have an advantage over Liverpool this season, Thuram stated: "I don't think so; each game is an individual episode. We'll play against a strong team with many champions." He acknowledged that while some believe it's an ideal time to face Liverpool, it might not be as straightforward.

Liverpool have historically performed well against Italian teams in Europe. They have won five of their last six away games against Italian sides and have never lost at Stadio Giuseppe Meazza in the Champions League. However, they will face an Inter team unbeaten in their last three matches across all competitions.

Thuram's Readiness and Record

Inter recently defeated Como 4-0, with Thuram scoring his eighth goal in 16 appearances this season. This goal also made him Inter's top-scoring Frenchman in Serie A history with 31 goals, surpassing Youri Djorkaeff's record of 30 goals. Thuram is eager to continue his form against Liverpool.

If Thuram starts against Liverpool, it will be his third match in six days. The striker commented on his fitness: "I feel good," echoing similar sentiments he shared after a win over Slavia Prague earlier this season. Although he missed over a month due to injury afterward, Thuram assured fans he's fully recovered and ready for action.

The upcoming clash promises excitement as both teams aim to improve their standings and performance on the European stage.
