Conor Coady remains optimistic about Wrexham's potential to make an impact in the Championship this season, despite their initial 2-1 loss to Southampton. The match saw late goals from Ryan Manning and Jack Stephens secure victory for the Saints. Wrexham will face Hull City in the EFL Cup first round before their home league game against West Brom.
Wrexham's squad has seen significant changes this summer, with Coady joining new signings like Lewis O'Brien, Liberato Cacace, and Kieffer Moore. The club, backed by celebrity owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, has achieved three consecutive promotions from the National League to the Championship. Despite these achievements, Opta's supercomputer gives them only a 2.8% chance of automatic promotion this season.

Coady is confident that Wrexham can compete at the top of the standings. "We're going to cope with it," he stated. "We know what we are. We know how we're going to play, and we're here to upset and disrupt a few teams in this division." He emphasised the need for continuous improvement as they aim to challenge stronger teams.
The Opta supercomputer ran 10,000 pre-season simulations, predicting Wrexham would finish in the top six only 9.6% of the time while facing a 20.2% chance of relegation back to League One. According to Opta’s Power Rankings model, Wrexham faces one of the toughest starts among the 24 Championship clubs.
Phil Parkinson, Wrexham's manager, mentioned that no specific targets were set by owners Reynolds and McElhenney for this season. Instead, consistent progress is seen as success for Wrexham this year. Coady hinted at bigger ambitions within the team despite these modest expectations.
Coady expressed admiration for Wrexham's journey from the National League to their current position but stressed that they aim higher now. "It's amazing to see where this club has gone," he said. "But we're at a point now where we don't just enjoy being here." He highlighted their desire to compete with teams like Southampton and possibly surpass them.
Facing former Premier League team Southampton was a significant step for Wrexham after being in League One last season. Coady noted that they are now competing with such teams and proving their capability on the field. He encouraged taking each game as it comes while enjoying their progress.
