Attacking midfielder Xavi Simons has made a permanent move to RB Leipzig after an 18-month loan from Paris Saint-Germain. The Dutch player has committed to Leipzig with a contract running until 2027. Reports from Germany suggest the transfer deal exceeds 50 million, with substantial add-ons included.
Simons expressed his contentment, stating, "I have always emphasised that I feel very much at home in Leipzig and am honoured by the great appreciation I receive at the club." His journey began at PSG as a youth player in 2019 after spending seven years at Barcelona. He debuted for PSG's senior team in 2021 before moving to PSV in 2022 and returning to PSG in 2023.

Upon his return to PSG, Simons was loaned to Leipzig, where he made a significant impact. In his first Bundesliga season, he scored eight goals and provided 11 assists across 32 matches. This season, he has already netted four goals and assisted three times. Overall, Simons has played 60 games for Leipzig in all competitions, scoring 15 goals and contributing to their DFL-Supercup victory in 2023.
Simons is focused on future achievements with Leipzig. "We want to qualify for the Champions League for the seventh time in a row and travel to Berlin for the DFB-Pokal final, that's all that matters now," he stated. Leipzig is set to compete against Wolfsburg in the Pokal quarter-finals later this month.
Currently, RB Leipzig holds fifth place in the Bundesliga standings. They are closely trailing Stuttgart, who are fourth, only separated by goal difference. The team's performance remains crucial as they aim for consistent success both domestically and in European competitions.
The strategic acquisition of Simons underscores Leipzig's ambition to strengthen their squad further. His contributions on the field are expected to play a pivotal role as they pursue their objectives this season.
