Yan Diomande To Remain RB Leipzig Player As Sporting Director Confirms

RB Leipzig managing director Marcel Schafer confirms the club plan to keep Yan Diomande for the 2026-27 season, despite interest from major European teams. Diomande is under contract for four more years, and Leipzig state there is no intention to sell the 19-year-old after a standout 2025-26 campaign.

Across the 2025-26 Bundesliga season, Diomande records 20 direct goal involvements, scoring 12 times and providing eight assists in 33 matches. Only Harry Kane, Michael Olise, Luis Diaz, Deniz Undav and Christoph Baumgartner post higher combined figures, underlining how quickly Diomande establishes influence in Germany’s top division at a young age.

Beyond goals and assists, Diomande leads the league in key attacking actions. The winger completes 118 dribbles, which is 50 more than any other Bundesliga player, and records 104 take-on-ending carries, again finishing 29 clear of the next best, highlighting Diomande’s consistent threat when carrying the ball.

Diomande carries that form into the 2026 World Cup, where Ivory Coast reach the knockout rounds for the first time in their history. Diomande becomes only the second African player on record, after South Africa's Quinton Fortune in 2002, to complete at least 10 dribbles and create 10 chances in a single group stage.

Indeed, that output also makes Diomande the first player from any nation to reach double figures for both dribbles and chances during a World Cup group phase since Brazil's Neymar in 2018. This combination of domestic and international numbers has alerted several leading clubs ahead of the upcoming transfer window.

Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool are reported to be competing for Diomande’s signature, yet Leipzig maintain a firm position. The Bundesliga side indicate that, even amid intense interest, Diomande is expected to remain at the Red Bull Arena for at least one more season while development continues in a familiar environment.

"Our clear intention is for Yan Diomande to play for RB Leipzig next season. And we're not going to deviate from that. We know exactly what we have in him, Schafer told BILD. Of course, if Yan continues to develop the way he has, the time will come when well allow him to take the next stepbut not this year. If we dont find a solution, then we dont find onebut he still has a four-year contract. So let me emphasise this once again: Yan Diomande will remain a Leipzig player."

As things stand, Leipzig view Diomande as central to short-term and medium-term planning, while accepting a bigger move could follow later. For now, the statistics in the Bundesliga and at the 2026 World Cup support Leipzig’s decision to keep Diomande in place for at least the 2026-27 season.
