Bengaluru, December 18: Chelsea legend Didier Drogba has been named as an ambassador for the Ligue de Football Professionnel along with retired French international legend Youri Djorkaeff.

The retired Cote d’Ivoire international and the 49-year-old former Ligue 1 player will attend all the international events of the French Ligue of all the divisions along with trophy ceremonies and other events organised by the LFP.

"I am very proud to accompany the Ligue de Football Professionnel in this new programme. French football gave me a lot. By becoming an ambassador for Ligue 1 Conforama, I will now be able to help develop a league that gave me so much, both on the pitch and in the stands," said Drogba.

"I am honoured to be able to join the start of a long adventure. After scoring and setting up goals on the field, this new opportunity constitutes an exciting challenge. Ligue 1 Conforama is becoming more attractive. It is up to me to join in with the work being done to make our league better known internationally," Djorkaeff said.

Drogba currently plays for American club Phoenix Rising and is on the verge of ending his footballing career. The African first made a name for himself in Ligue 1 with Guingamp and Marseille before moving to England with Chelsea where he received most of his coveted honours, winning four Premier League and Fa Cup titles along with a Champions League trophy.

On the other hand, retired attacking midfielder Youri Djorkaeff is one of the legends of the Ligue 1 with Monaco and his most notable honours were winning the World Cup 1998 and the European Cup 2000 with French National team. He also was the top scorer of French league in 1993-94.
