ZEE5 Alleged Device Limit Scam on FIFA World Cup 2026 Subscription, Restores after Public Outrage
ZEE5, the exclusive digital streaming partner for FIFA World Cup 2026 in India, is facing heavy backlash from users over an alleged bait-and-switch tactic involving device limits on its special subscription packs.
The ₹799 quarterly FIFA World Cup 2026 + All Access plan and the ₹1,699 annual plan were widely promoted with multi-device support. Many subscribers purchased the packs expecting the flexibility of 3 simultaneous devices for group viewing with friends and family, especially as the tournament began on June 11.

However, on June 11, the very day the World Cup kicked off, ZEE5 has quietly updated its terms. The ₹799 plan has reduced to only 1 device, while the annual plan was limited to 2 devices. Users who had bought subscriptions based on the original 3-device claim expressed outrage across social media, calling it a “daylight robbery” and demanding immediate refunds.
ZEE5 alters Subscription Amount before World Cup 2026
ZEE5’s current help centre now lists the revised limits: 1 screen for the ₹799 plan and 2 screens for the ₹1,699 plan. The platform has not provided any detailed public explanation for the sudden change, leading many to believe it was done to curb account sharing and increase revenue.
Frustrated fans are now highlighting cheaper alternatives such as DTH channels or even discussing piracy options. The controversy has significantly damaged ZEE5’s reputation right at the start of the tournament.
Consumers are advised to always screenshot plan details at the time of purchase and carefully review terms before subscribing. As excitement for the FIFA World Cup 2026 builds, ZEE5 needs to address these trust issues swiftly to retain its audience.
MyKhel Investigated the Accusations
Upon a number of alleged scam claims, MyKhel investigated the matter and found serious issues with the ZEE5 subscriptions. The users who had prior subscription before the FIFA World Cup deal, could use up to 4 devices for a yearly subscription charge of Rs 999, but the latest deal has significantly risen.
Although it is in ZEE's own interest to hike the subscription charges, the sudden decrease in device limit is unfair to the users and needs a serious look.
ZEE5 Restore Device Limit to 3
MyKhel contacted the concerned personnel, but they remained silent about this matter and refused to comment. MyKhel then approached ZEE for their comment, and we understand that ZEE5 has restored the three-device limit for the users, thus ending the issue for fans.
