ZFA Finish Runners-Up in AIFF U-18 Elite League 2025–26 After Loss to Punjab FC

Zinc Football Academy (ZFA) concluded a historic campaign in the AIFF U-18 Elite League 2025-26 as runners-up after a 0-3 defeat to defending champions Punjab FC in the final held at Mahilpur, Punjab, on April 29.

Playing their maiden final in the competition, ZFA faced a formidable challenge against an experienced Punjab FC side competing on home turf. Despite the odds, the young squad rose to the occasion and delivered a spirited performance that reflected the growth and promise they have shown throughout the season.

The opening half was a tightly contested affair, with both teams matching each other in intensity and execution. ZFA displayed composure and intent, going toe-to-toe with the defending champions. Chances were created at both ends, and the contest maintained a high tempo, giving spectators a glimpse of the academy's technical and tactical progress.

However, the game turned decisively in the second half. Punjab FC broke the deadlock and quickly doubled their lead, scoring twice within a span of just two minutes. The sudden shift in momentum proved difficult for ZFA to recover from. Despite their efforts to regroup and push forward, Punjab FC maintained control and added a third goal later in the match to seal a comprehensive victory.

While the result did not go in their favour, ZFA's journey to the final stands as a significant milestone. The academy not only reached their first-ever semi-final this season but also progressed to the final, marking their best performance in the competition's history and establishing themselves among the top youth teams in the country.

A standout performer in ZFA's campaign was goalkeeper Smarnik Thapa, who was named the Goalkeeper of the Tournament. His consistent performances and crucial saves played a key role in the team's run to the final, earning him well-deserved recognition.

ZFA's runners-up finish signals a bright future for the academy, with this campaign setting a strong foundation for continued success in Indian youth football.
