Zubimendi Chooses Arsenal Despite Other Excellent Opportunities, Arteta Comments

Martin Zubimendi has joined Arsenal from Real Sociedad, turning down several other opportunities. Mikel Arteta expresses excitement about Zubimendi's potential contributions to the team.

Mikel Arteta is thrilled that Martin Zubimendi opted to join Arsenal, despite having other appealing offers. Zubimendi, one of four new signings for Arsenal this transfer window, joined from Real Sociedad on a long-term contract reportedly valued at £60 million (€69.5 million). Last year, he declined an offer from Liverpool, and Real Madrid was also reportedly interested before Arsenal secured his signature.

In the previous season, Zubimendi played 36 league matches, attempting 1,752 passes and completing 1,479. Among these, 321 successful passes reached the final third. These figures were the highest for La Real as they finished 11th in the league. Only Takefusa Kubo surpassed him with 326 final-third passes. Arteta has already been impressed by Zubimendi's performance during pre-season training sessions.

Zubimendi Joins Arsenal Amid Other Offers

Arteta described the transfer process for Zubimendi as lengthy. "He had a lot of opportunities to decide whether he wanted to come," Arteta said. "The good news is that this club is amazing, and everybody wants to come to it." He praised Zubimendi for choosing Arsenal over other attractive options and expressed excitement about what the player will bring to the team.

Noni Madueke is another recent addition to Arsenal's squad, joining from London rivals Chelsea. Earlier this month, Kepa Arrizabalaga made a similar move. In recent years, players like Kai Havertz, Jorginho, and Raheem Sterling have also transferred from Chelsea to Arsenal on loan. However, Arteta insists these transfers are coincidental rather than strategic.

"It's probably because they have some great players and a lot of players!" Arteta joked about signing players from Chelsea. He emphasised that Arsenal focuses on acquiring players they desire regardless of their current club affiliation. The quality of the squad remains a priority for him.

Arteta expressed his enthusiasm about Madueke joining the team: "With Noni, I'm very excited." He noted the positive reactions from other players familiar with Madueke's abilities. Although Madueke needs some rest now, Arteta looks forward to seeing his contributions soon.

Arteta is optimistic about both Zubimendi and Madueke enhancing Arsenal's squad with their skills and character. The manager believes their presence will significantly benefit the team in upcoming competitions.
