119 appear for North Zone IHF U-19 trials
Chandigarh, May 10 (UNI) As many as 119 probables appeared for the two-day North Zone trials being conducted by the Chandigarh Hockey Association on the direction of the Indian Hockey Federation (IHF) at the Sector 42 Hockey Stadium.
The IHF conducted the zonal selection trials to constitute a nucleus of 40 to 50 players for the 2009 Junior World Cup and 2010 Commonwealth Games under its Long Term Youth Development Programme.
A selection panel comprising Narinder Singh Sodhi, Narinder Singh Sodhi, S P Das and Amarjit Singh, along with IHF zonal cooridnator Y P Vohra watched the players in action in the evening session today.
Former Indian chief coach Harmik Singh is expected to join the spotters tomorrow.
According to former Indian coach Narinder Singh Sodhi, Punjab fielded a maximum number of 42 probables for trials. Thirty two players are from Haryana, 23 from Chandigarh, 16 from Himachal Pradesh and three each from Delhi and Jammu and Kashmir.
The final selection for the Under-21 World Cup-2009 and 2010 Commonwealth Games would be made at the IHF level selection trials.
