Sydney: India took a 2-1 lead against Spain in a crucial Group 'B' match at the State Hockey Centre in the Olympics on Saturday.
Baljit Singh Dhillon gave India an early lead by converting a penalty stroke. But, the Spaniards quickly pounced on an opportunity to equalise with 14 minutes remaining for half time.
The Indians, however, pressed hard and surged ahead with Dilip Tirkey scoring off a penalty corner. Tirkey's first attempt was blocked by the goal-keeper, but the Indian defender was alert to latch on to the rebound and score.
Earlier Australia assured themselves of a possible semi-final berth by routing Korea 3-0.
