Air Force Hockey Championship 2007-08 to be held from June 18
Chandigarh, Jun 16 (UNI) The Air Force Hockey Championship 2007-08 will be held at the Sector-42 Hockey Stadium here from June 18 to 22.
The Championship would form basis for the selection of the Air Force team for the forthcoming Inter Services Hockey Championship which is scheduled to be held at the same venue in July this year.
To be hosted by 3 Base Repair Depot (BRD) Air Force on behalf of the Maintenance Command headquarters of the IAF, the Championship will be conducted under the aegis of Air Force Sports Control Board.
Air Commodore R K Srivastava, Air Officer Commanding, 3 BRD Air Force and Chief Patron for the Championship, will be formally inaugurating the Championship on Monday.
The inaugural match would be played between the Maintenance Command, the reigning champions, and the Western Air Command.
The Championship will be conducted as per the rules laid down by the International Hockey Federation and as adopted by the Indian Hockey Federation.
The matches will be played on astroturf on league-cum-knock out basis. Eight teams will be participating in the championship and they would be divided into two groups.
Group Captain HPS Sarao and Wing Commander M K Sharma are the Chairman and Organizing Secretary for this Championship respectively.
