Asian Games 2026: India Beat Indonesia 17-1 In Women’s Hockey

India continued their dominant start to the women's hockey competition at the Asian Games 2026, thrashing Indonesia 17-1 in their second Pool B match on Monday.

After opening their campaign with a 19-0 demolition of Uzbekistan, India produced another emphatic attacking display, taking their goal tally to 36 in just two matches. Navneet, Deepika and Rutuja Dadaso Pisal all completed hat-tricks, while Indonesia were unable to cope with India's relentless pressure.

India run riot from the opening quarter

India needed just eight minutes to break the deadlock, with Deepika converting a penalty corner with a precise drag-flick.

Indonesia survived an early penalty stroke after Navneet was denied by the goalkeeper, but the reprieve did little to change the flow of the contest.

Lalremsiami doubled India's advantage before Sunelita Toppo made it 3-0 in the 11th minute. Rutuja then added a fourth before the end of the opening quarter.

India continued at the same pace in the second quarter. Lalremsiami scored again almost immediately, before Rutuja added her second and Sakshi Rana joined the scoresheet.

Deepika then converted another penalty corner to make it 8-0, with Sunelita getting her second goal of the match just before half-time. India went into the break 9-0 ahead.

Indonesia briefly respond before India pull away

Indonesia finally found a breakthrough early in the third quarter when Innes converted in the 32nd minute, giving them their only goal of the match.

India, however, responded almost immediately.

Salima Tete scored to restore the eight-goal advantage before Navneet got on the scoresheet. Ishika Chaudhary then made it 12-1, although she was briefly shown a green card shortly afterwards.

Rutuja completed her hat-trick before Deepika followed suit with another penalty-corner conversion, taking India to 14-1 at the end of the third quarter.

The final period was comparatively quieter, but India still added three more goals. Navneet struck twice before completing her hat-trick, while Sakshi Rana added her second as India closed out a 17-1 victory.

India maintain perfect start

The win gives India 36 goals from their opening two matches, with just one conceded.

The Indian women are aiming to end a long wait for Asian Games gold. Their only title came in 1982, while they have since won two silver and four bronze medals, including bronze at Hangzhou in 2023.

India will face Thailand in their third Pool B match on Wednesday as they continue their campaign in Aichi-Nagoya.
