Chandigarh honours 3 hockey players

Chandigarh, Aug 29 (UNI) The Chandigarh Sports Council today honoured three outstanding hockey players to mark the anniversary of legendary hockey player Major Dhyan Chand here.

Adviser to the UT Administrator Pradip Mehra awarded a cash prize of Rs One lakh each to Baljit Singh (Senior), Rajpal Singh and Jaswinder Singh.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Mehra said that ''Chandigarh has been the nursery for sports persons and athletes for last 30 to 35 years because of its wonderful maintained infrastructure.'' ''The Administration is committed for the expansion, maintenance and upgradation of sports infrastructure in the city. Chandigarh already has academies for hockey, cricket and football and soon it would have academies for other sports too,'' added Mr Mehra.

Sports Secretary Sanjay Kumar, officials of Sports Department, and distinguished sports persons were also present on the occasion.
