Delhi SG Pipers, a prominent team in the Hockey India League (HIL), has made headlines with the signing of Corey Weyer, an esteemed Australian defender, for the forthcoming season.
This move comes as a significant enhancement to the team's defensive capabilities and introduces an additional attacking option through Weyer's drag-flicking prowess.

The 28-year-old Queensland native, with a commendable international track record, including participation in the 2024 Paris Olympics, brings both experience and skill to the table.
His recruitment is intended to fill the void left by Flynn Ogilvie, another Australian who withdrew from the league for personal reasons.
Weyer's international experience is expected to be a valuable asset for Delhi SG Pipers. Having debuted for the Kookaburras in 2017, he was part of the squad that clinched the bronze medal at the 2018 World Cup in Bhubaneswar.
His career highlights also include gold medals at the 2019 Oceania Cup and the 2014 Youth Olympics in Nanjing, China, showcasing his ability to perform on the world stage. His inclusion in the team is seen as a strategic acquisition, enhancing the squad's defensive lineup while also offering an extra edge in set-piece situations.
The addition of Corey Weyer to Delhi SG Pipers has been warmly welcomed by the team's management and coaching staff. Mahesh Bhupathi, CEO of SG Sports, Media and Entertainment (SGSE), expressed his enthusiasm about Weyer's joining, emphasising his strong defensive skills and the overall strength he brings to the team's backline.
Bhupathi, while highlighting the positive outlook the team has towards this new signing, said, "We welcome Corey to the Delhi SG Pipers family. He is a great addition to our team as he is a strong defender and his addition will only fortify our backline. As a team, we are really excited because we have managed to rope in a top-notch player in the form of Corey,"
Graham Reid, the Head Coach of the men's team, also shared his views on Weyer's acquisition, noting his defensive prowess and ball distribution skills. Reid pointed out, "Corey is a great defender and a world-class distributor of the ball. He also brings with him an extra dragflicking option.
"Weyer's selection for the Delhi SG Pipers aligns with the team's goal of bolstering the defence with a player who has proven himself at the highest level of international hockey." This reflects the team's strategic approach to strengthening its lineup by incorporating players of high calibre like Weyer.
Weyer's career, adorned with 63 caps for the national team, speaks volumes of his contribution to the sport and his return to the Kookaburras' fold underscores his remarkable form and physical fitness.
His engagement with Delhi SG Pipers marks a new chapter in his professional journey, bringing his expertise to the Indian hockey scene.
