Cries of sexual harassment from women hockey team

By Samyuktha

New Delhi, Jul 21: Just months after the chaos in the national sport over non payment of dues and incentives, Hockey in India is yet again in a turbulant phase with allegations of sexual harassment coming from a member if the national women's team.

In a written complaint, the women player alleged that one of the coaching staff had asked for sexual favours and used vulgar language during a recent Canada and China tour.

"A women team member has mailed me a written complaint of sexual harassment, usage of vulgar language, and asking for sexual favours against a coaching staff," Hockey India (HI) general secretary Narendra Batra said.

The anonymous mail received accuses the videographer of the team of indulging in a sexual orgy with prostitutes during the foreign tour, Batra informed, adding that five photographs of the videographer with the prostitutes had also been mailed to him.

The complaint has prompted the sport's governing body to set up a four-member probe committee, which includes Rajiv Mehta, as its chairman and former players Zaffer Iqbal and Ajit Pal Singh and Sudharsan Pathak.

"The committee had its first meeting yesterday (Jul 20) and decided that the videographer will not be accompanying the team on upcoming tours pending the inquiry," the HI official added.
