DAV, Khalsa College, enter semi-finals of Nehru Hockey tourney

New Delhi, Feb 11 (UNI) Jalandhar colleges D A V and Lyallapur Khalsa chalked out hard fought victories over their rivals to move into the semi-finals of the 15th Sail-Nehru Colleges Hockey Tournament here today.

Riding on Major Singh's brace, defending champion DAV overcame spirited CRA, Sonepat 3-2 while Lyallapur Khalsa piped Municipal College, Rourkela 2-1.

It was CRA who took the lead through Ashok Kumar in the 15th minute. However the lead lasted only 10 minutes as Major Singh shot home the equaliser.

Three minutes into the second sesion, Sonepat took the lead again with Ashok scoring his and the team's second goal but the Punjab team fought back to draw parity again with Ajay Kumar scoring a fine goal in the 41st minute.

Major Singh then scored his second goal in the 50th minute to seal the issue.

In the other match, Sunil Kujur scored in the 30th minute as the Orissa team went into the half-time break with a 1-0 lead.

However, in the second half, Jasdeep Singh scored in the 47th and 51st minutes to enable Khalsa College emerge as the winner.
