Leadership for Men's Team: A Dynamic Duo

Jacob Whetton, a three-time Olympian and 2014 World Cup winner, expressed his enthusiasm for the role: "It's an absolute privilege to co-captain the Delhi SG Pipers alongside Indian superstar Shamsher Singh. The Hockey India League is a fantastic opportunity to compete with and against some of the world's best players."

Whetton's illustrious career includes an Olympic silver medal at Tokyo 2020, two FIH Pro League titles, and three Commonwealth Games gold medals. His leadership and strategic mindset are expected to play a pivotal role in the Pipers' campaign.

Shamsher Singh, who debuted for India in 2019 and has since amassed over 100 caps, was equally honored by the appointment:
> "I am thankful to the team management and coach Graham Reid for their trust. I am excited to lead with Jacob and look forward to a successful season."

Graham Reid, the team's head coach, highlighted the rationale behind the co-captaincy: "Shamsher brings a calm, confident leadership style and deep experience, having played crucial roles in India's Olympic bronze medal campaigns. Jacob's vast international experience and leadership qualities make him a perfect co-captain."

Navneet Kaur to Lead Women's Side

Navneet Kaur, one of India's most consistent performers, will captain the women's team, with Belgian defender Emma Puvrez serving as vice-captain. Navneet has played 178 international matches and scored 53 goals, earning a reputation for her relentless work ethic and leadership on and off the field.

Head coach Dave Smolenaars emphasized Navneet's leadership qualities:
> "Navneet is a natural leader. She is communicative, committed, and a winner. Her 100% dedication is a crucial factor in developing Indian hockey."

Navneet expressed her gratitude and excitement: "I am truly honoured to captain this amazing team. I believe in my teammates, and I am excited to lead them in this new journey."

Delhi SG Pipers also appointed Belgian defender Emma Puvrez as Navneet's deputy in the competition. Since her debut in 2014, Navneet has appeared for India in 178 games and has 53 goals to her credit.

Why Two Captains for Men's Team?

PR Sreejesh, the Director of Hockey for the Pipers and a legendary Indian goalkeeper, shed light on the decision to have co-captains: "The dual captaincy ensures equal importance for both foreign and domestic players. Whetton's experience and Shamsher's achievements make them ideal leaders, fostering unity within the team."
