The FIH Hockey Star Awards nominees list was released on Tuesday (September 17) and a couple of Indian stars are in contention for the awards.
India's hockey captain, Harmanpreet Singh, has been nominated for the FIH Player of the Year award. PR Sreejesh, a legendary figure in Indian hockey, is also in contention for the Goalkeeper of the Year honour. Both players were instrumental in India's successful campaign at the Paris Olympics, where they secured a bronze medal.

Harmanpreet Singh has now also led the Indian hockey team to their 5th Asian Champions Trophy crown.
Harmanpreet Singh will face competition from Thierry Brinkman and Joep de Mol of the Netherlands, Hannes Müller from Germany, and England's Zach Wallace.
Meanwhile, Sreejesh's competitors include Pirmin Blaak (Netherlands), Luis Calzado (Spain), Jean-Paul Danneberg (Germany), and Tomas Santiago (Argentina). Harmanpreet led India with 10 goals during the tournament.
The FIH announced that an Expert Panel selected nominees based on match data from international games held in 2024. This includes Test matches, FIH Hockey Pro League, Nations Cups, Olympic Qualifiers, and the Paris Olympics. The panel comprises representatives from various continents.
Gu Bingfeng (China), Yibbi Jansen (Netherlands), Nike Lorenz (Germany), Stephanie Vanden Borre (Belgium), and Xan de Waard (Netherlands) are nominated for Player of the Year.
In goalkeeping categories - Cristina Cosentino (Argentina), Aisling D'Hooghe (Belgium), Nathalie Kubalski (Germany), Anne Veenendaal (Netherlands), and Ye Jiao (China) are contenders.

The voting remains open until October 11. National associations, represented by team captains and coaches, fans, players, coaches, officials, and media can vote and determine the winner. The Expert Panel's votes account for 40% of the result. National Associations contribute another 20%, while fans and other players along with media make up the remaining 40%.

"The list of nominees was established by an Expert Panel composed of players, coaches and officials selected by each of their Continental Federations," stated FIH on its website. "The expert panel was provided access to match data from all international matches held in 2024."
The expert panel includes Janne Muller-Wieland from Germany and Simon Mason from England representing Europe; Tahir Zaman from Pakistan and Ms Deepika from India representing Asia; Soledad Iparraguirre from Argentina and Craig Parnham from USA representing Pan America; Sarah Bennett from Zimbabwe and Ahmed Youssef from Egypt representing Africa; Amber Church from New Zealand and Adam Webster from Australia representing Oceania.
