FIH Hockey5s Men's World Cup 2024: Rampant India Advance To Quarterfinals; Routs Jamaica 13-0

India thrashed Jamaica by 13-0 in their final pool fixture of the FIH Men's Hockey5s World Cup 2024 played on Monday in Muscat, Oman. This was India's second win in the four-team Pool B, which also confirmed their quarterfinal berth.

India displayed a relentless attack right from the start with Maninder Singh netting two early goals in the second minute. Uttam Singh and Manjeet added one each three minutes later as the Men in Blues got off to a flier.

India were in a comfortable position at 6-0 going into the halftime. Mohammed Raheel, who scored a hattrick against Switzerland in the first game, scored his opening goal in the opening minute of the second half.

The Jamaican defense showed some resistance for almost eight minutes, denying India as many as six opportunities to score. A terrific goal from Manjeet from the left side of the court paved India's way for another set of goals galore.

Maninder completed his hat-trick with just three minutes to tick on the clock before netting the final goal of the match. In the meantime, Mandeep Mor struck twice in the space of four minutes, while Raheel added his second.

Following the comprehensive win, India consolidated their position in the top two spots of the points table with two wins in three games. After a lacklustre performance against Egypt last night, the Indians bounced back well to confirm a spot in the quarterfinals.

Egypt rally past Switzerland to lead Pool B

Egypt continued their dominant run in Pool B with a 9-1 win over Switzerland in their last match of the group stage. Hat-tricks from Ahmed Elganaini and Mohamed Nasr helped the African side to demolish the Swiss defense. Hossameldin Ragab scored a brace and Ahmed Elnaggar hit the remaining goal.

Meanwhile, Elias Bronnimann was the lone goalscorer for Switzerland. Egypt and India will move to the quarterfinals from Pool B, while the campaign for Switzerland and Jamaica ends here.
