Gurbaz to lead India in Junior Asian Hockey

New Delhi, Jul 1 (UNI) Gurbaz Singh was today named captain of the 18-member India team for the eight-nation Junior Asia Cup hockey tournament to be held at Hyderabad from July 11 to 18.

The ad hoc selection committee, of the IHF, headed by Aslam Sher Khan picked up the squad after a three-day trial held in Hyderabad between June 28 and 30.

The selection committee has retained seven players who were part of the silver-winning squad of the Azlan Shah Cup tournament in Malaysia in May, while giving chance to others to rise through the ranks.

S P Bansal has been retained as the coach.

The team: Goal Keeper: Sreejesh P R, Mrinal Chaubey.

Defenders: Diwakar Ram, Innocent Kullu, Manjeet Kullu, Midfielders: Gurbaz Singh(Capt), Vivek, Ranjit Singh, Vikas Sharma, B Horro, Amandeep Ekka, Forwards: Mandeep Antil, S V Sunil, Gurminder Singh, Jagwant Singh, Pramod, Roshan Minz, Danish Mujtaba Coach: S P Bansal.
