HIL 2024-25: Shrachi Rarh Bengal Tigers and JSW Soorma Triumph Over Delhi SG Pipers

By MyKhel Staff

Shrachi Rarh Bengal Tigers and JSW Soorma Hockey Club clinched emphatic wins against Delhi SG Pipers in the Hockey India League 2024-25 on Wednesday at Ranchi's Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh Stadium.

The Bengal Tigers triumphed 2-0 in the women's clash with Kathryn Mullan's brace, while the Soorma Hockey Club edged out the Pipers 2-1 in the men's fixture, thanks to early goals from Harjeet Singh and Gurjant Singh.

In the women's encounter, the Tigers dominated the second quarter with Mullan's audacious strike from the top of the circle in the 21st minute, followed by a beautifully assisted goal in the 33rd minute by Lalremsiami after a brilliant run by Vandana Katariya. The Pipers, despite an aggressive approach, failed to convert their chances. Deepika's penalty corner attempt in the 18th minute and a tactical move to pull the goalkeeper in the final quarter did not yield any results.

Meanwhile, the men's game saw JSW Soorma Hockey Club deploy an aggressive 2-3-5 formation, striking early through Harjeet Singh in the 9th minute with a powerful shot from the top of the circle. Gurjant Singh doubled the lead in the 17th minute, capitalizing on a defensive lapse. The Pipers showed resilience in the final quarter when Corey Weyer scored in the 59th minute after a rebound from a save by Vincent Vanasch. However, their last-minute penalty corner attempt was thwarted, sealing Soorma's narrow victory.

Both Delhi SG Pipers teams remain winless, with these results cementing their exits from playoff contention. While the Tigers and Soorma celebrated hard-fought wins, the Pipers' performances highlighted a lack of composure and finishing in crucial moments.
