Hockey India League 2024/25 men's tournament is down to two teams after the Shrachi Rarh Bengal Tigers and Hyderabad Toofans emerged victorious in the semi-finals on Friday (January 31) at the Birsa Munda International Hockey Stadium in Rourkela, Odisha.
Shrachi Rarh Bengal Tigers booked their place in the final of the Hockey India League, defeating Tamil Nadu Dragons 6-5 in a dramatic penalty shoot out. In the second semifinal, Hyderabad Toofans thrashed Soorma Hockey Club 3-1 to set up the summit clash with the Tigers.

Amandeep Lakra (25th), Jacob Anderson (35th) and Nilakanta Sharma (43rd) were the goal-scorers for Toofans, while Jeremy Hayward (60th) scored the solitary goal for Soorma in the losing cause.
In the first semifinals, Shrachi Rarh Bengal Tigers came back from a goal down twice before forcing a penalty shootout as the score was tied 2-2 in regulation time. Pardeep Singh Sandhu (30th) and Sam Lane (53rd) scored for the Bengal Tigers, while Nathan Ephraums (18th) and Selvam Karthi (32nd) scored for the Tamil Nadu Dragons.

As mentioned earlier, the two sides have crossed paths only once this season in the league phase as they were drawn in different groups in phase 2. In the only meeting between the two teams, Rarh Bengal Tigers edged the Hyderabad Toofans 3-2.
While Rarh Bengal Tigers ran away with a 3-0 lead thanks to goals from Jugraj (9th minute), Sukhjeet (20th minute) and Affan Yousuf (36th minute), the Toofans pulled two goals back through Timothy Daniel (41st minute) and Arthur De Sloover (59th minute) in their only meeting so far.
