The Hockey India League (HIL) is set to make a grand return this December after a seven-year hiatus. And ahead of the tournament, the auction for the players took place in Delhi across two days.
There will be eight men's teams participating in the tournament and they utilized their allocated INR 4 crore purse to meticulously assemble their squads, ensuring a balanced mix of talent and experience for the upcoming edition of HIL.

Leading the auction, India's captain Harmanpreet Singh, was snapped up by the Soorma Hockey Club for a staggering Rs 78 lakh, making him the highest-paid player in this auction. Close behind, Gonzalo Peillat from Germany, known for his exceptional drag-flicking skills, became the most expensive foreign player after being acquired by the Hyderabad Toofans for Rs 68 lakh.
Among the teams, the Delhi SG Pipers have built a robust lineup, including goalkeepers Tomas Santiago from Argentina and Pawan, alongside defenders like Jarmanpreet Singh and Rohit. This strategic selection aims to fortify their defense while also enhancing their attack with forwards like Tomas Domene and Nicolas De Kerpel. The Kalinga Lancers, representing Odisha, have also made significant investments, bringing on board goalkeepers Krishan Pathak and Tobias Reynolds-Cotterill from Great Britain, demonstrating their intent to be formidable contenders.
The Hyderabad Toofans have assembled a competitive squad with notable players like Jean-Paul Danneberg from Germany guarding the goal and Gonzalo Peillat leading the defense. Their midfield and forward lines are equally impressive, featuring talents such as Nilakanta Sharma and Shilanand Lakra, indicating a well-rounded team strategy.
Similarly, the Shrachi Rarh Bengal Tigers have secured the services of Pirmin Blaak from the Netherlands as their goalkeeper, with a defense spearheaded by Jugraj Singh and Hayden Beltz from Australia, showcasing their ambition to dominate the tournament. Abhishek is also a magnificent addition in their forward line.
The Soorma Hockey Club, besides securing Harmanpreet Singh, has also roped in Vincent Vanasch from Belgium as their goalkeeper and notable players like Jeremy Hayward from Australia in their defense. The Tamil Nadu Dragons, on the other hand, have focused on creating a strong defensive lineup with players like Amit Rohidas and Jip Janssen from the Netherlands, complemented by forwards such as Selvam Karthi and Nathan Ephraums from Australia, promising a balanced team performance.
Team Gonasika has made strategic picks, including goalkeepers like Oliver Payne from Great Britain and a defense led by Nilam Sanjeep Xess and Amir Ali. Their midfield and forward lines, featuring Manpreet Singh and Mandeep Singh, respectively, demonstrate their commitment to building a competitive squad.
