By MyKhel Staff

The Vedanta Kalinga Lancers delivered a statement performance in the Hero Hockey India League (HIL) 2024-25, thrashing table-toppers Shrachi Rarh Bengal Tigers 6-0 at the Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium in Rourkela on Tuesday.

This victory marked the Lancers' first win of the season, lifting them to fifth in the standings. Thierry Brinkman (3', 47'), Sanjay (6'), Alexander Hendrickx (9'), Nicolas Bandurak (29'), and Boby Singh Dhami (49') scored for the home side in a match that saw them dominate from start to finish.

The Tigers, who had been unbeaten in their previous three games, struggled to keep up with the Lancers' aggressive start and sharp finishing. The Lancers stunned the Tigers with a blistering start, scoring three goals in the first six minutes.

Dutch forward Thierry Brinkman opened the scoring in the third minute, capitalizing on a precise pass from Dilpreet Singh. Moments later, Brinkman earned a penalty corner, which led to Sanjay doubling the lead after a rebound off Alexander Hendrickx's drag flick.

Hendrickx himself joined the scoresheet with a powerful flick into the top corner, making it 3-0. Despite enjoying more possession and circle penetrations, the Tigers failed to capitalize, with goalkeeper Krishan Bahadur Pathak delivering a Player-of-the-Match performance.

Pathak made crucial saves against penalty corners from Jugraj Singh and Rupinder Pal Singh, frustrating the Tigers' efforts throughout the game. The Lancers maintained their dominance in the second half. Nicolas Bandurak extended the lead in the 29th minute.

He deflected Brinkman's shot into the net. Brinkman added his second in the 47th minute, running along the goal line before slotting it past the Tigers' keeper. Boby Singh Dhami capped the scoring with a stunning tomahawk strike in the 49th minute.

Coach Valentin Altenburg praised the team's improved penalty corner conversions and defensive efforts, saying, "We needed this win, and the players delivered an outstanding performance today." The emphatic victory revitalizes the Lancers' campaign as they prepare for their next match, while the Tigers, despite the loss, remain atop the standings.
