In a commanding display at the Birsa Munda Stadium in Rourkela, Kalinga Lancers thrashed Delhi SG Pipers 5-1 in their Hockey India League (HIL) 2024-25 fixture on Thursday.
The Lancers were in top form, dominating both offensively and defensively, as they secured a comprehensive victory. The match got off to a flying start, with Kalinga Lancers taking the lead in the 11th minute thanks to Nicholas Bandurak's early goal.

The home team didn't slow down, doubling their advantage in the 36th minute through a well-taken strike from Arthur Van Doren. Just two minutes later, Thierry Brinkman capitalized on a defensive lapse from the Pipers, adding another goal to make it 3-0 going into halftime.
The Lancers were ruthless in the second half, further extending their lead. Brinkman netted his second goal of the match in the 43rd minute, making it 4-0. Gursahibjit Singh then put the game beyond reach, scoring in the 45th minute to complete the Lancers' clinical performance and make it 5-0.
Delhi SG Pipers did manage to pull one back in the 46th minute when Corey Weyer scored a dazzling solo goal, but it was little more than a consolation for the visitors. Despite their efforts, the Pipers struggled to break down the Lancers' defense and were unable to generate any meaningful scoring opportunities for the rest of the match.
Kalinga Lancers' attack was sharp and efficient, with Brinkman's brace and solid contributions from Bandurak, Van Doren, and Singh leading the charge. The team's defense, organized and impenetrable throughout, was key in stifling any hopes the Pipers had of staging a comeback.
This dominant victory lifts Kalinga Lancers as they continue to show their strength in the HIL, while Delhi SG Pipers will need to reassess their defensive strategy and finishing if they are to compete effectively in the coming fixtures.
