Hockey India League Points Table on January 29: Hyderabad Toofans were made to wait for semi-final spot after going down via penalty shootout to Team Gonasika in their final league stage match at the Birsa Munda International Hockey Stadium in Rourkela on Tuesday (January 28).

The Toofans remained in second, tied with first-placed and already qualified Rarh Bengal Tigers on 18 points, but dropped to third on Wednesday (January 29) and sealed a last four berth.

Fourth-placed Tamil Nadu Dragons lost to fifth-placed UP Rudras, but sealed the final semi-final spot after third-placed Soorma Hockey Club defeated table-toppers Rarh Bengal Tigers in another crucial match to seal the other semis berth.

In HIL 2024/25, each team battled every other team in the first phase of the tournament, before the eight teams divided into two groups of four teams each played in the second phase, with each team playing the other team of their respective group once to decide the top four.

In total, each team played 10 matches each in the league stage of the tournament with the top four after the two phases heading into the knockout round that includes the semi-finals followed by the third-place playoff and the title clash.

The league phase, which started on December 28, 2024, will conclude on January 29, 2025 before the knock out round kicks off on January 31 with the two semi-finals followed by the third-place playoff and the final on February 1, 2025.
