In an electrifying Hero Hockey India League (HIL) clash at Rourkela, Team Gonasika overcame Hyderabad Toofans in a dramatic penalty shootout after a 3-3 draw, despite Jacob Anderson setting a league record with the fastest goal scored in just 20 seconds.

The match began in stunning fashion as Anderson capitalized on a defensive lapse to give the Toofans an early lead. Six minutes later, Tim Brand extended their advantage, expertly deflecting Maico Casella's precision pass into the net.

However, the tide shifted when Victor Charlet converted a penalty stroke in the 12th minute, narrowing the gap for Team Gonasika. The momentum continued to swing as Araijeet Singh Hundal's composed penalty stroke equalized the score in the 24th minute. Moments later, local hero Amandeep Lakra restored the Toofans' lead with a powerful drag-flick, sending the Rourkela crowd into raptures as the hosts entered halftime with a 3-2 advantage.

The second half saw end-to-end action, with both teams creating chances but failing to convert in the third quarter. Charlet eventually struck again in the 55th minute with a blistering drag-flick, leveling the score at 3-3. Team Gonasika's persistence paid off, and they forced the game into a penalty shootout.

In the shootout, Oliver Payne emerged as the hero for Team Gonasika, delivering three successive saves that turned the tide in his team's favor. Despite the Toofans' early lead, Payne's brilliance ensured a 3-1 shootout victory for Team Gonasika, ending their campaign on a high note.

Although the Hyderabad Toofans remain in second place on the table, their semifinal fate now hinges on the results of Wednesday's matches. Team Gonasika's spirited comeback and Payne's stellar performance, however, will be remembered as a highlight of the season.
