Hockey India Official Faces Sexual Harassment Allegations in Anonymous Email: Report

Hockey India has come under scrutiny after an anonymous email alleging sexual harassment and misconduct against one of its officials was reportedly sent to senior administrators, according to a report by The Bridge.

As reported by The Bridge, the email was addressed to Hockey India President Dilip Tirkey and Kalpana Sharma, Director of the Sports Authority of India's Internal Complaints Committee.

The complaint reportedly accuses the unnamed official of sexual harassment and inappropriate behaviour towards female officials, coaches, and players. The allegations include claims of repeated unwanted calls, requests for unsolicited photographs, and threats to damage careers if advances were rejected.

According to the report, this is not the first time such allegations have surfaced against the individual. The official was reportedly suspended in 2023 despite reservations from some office bearers but was later reinstated into Hockey India last year.

The accused official was also said to have been part of Hockey India operations during the 2026 FIH Women's World Cup Qualifiers held in Hyderabad.

As per the report, the complainant has urged the Sports Authority of India to initiate an independent inquiry into the allegations and provide protection to individuals who may wish to come forward with further information.

Allegations Surface Amid Wider Concerns in Indian Sports Administration

This development comes shortly after a separate controversy involving the All India Football Federation (AIFF), where women's committee head Valanka Alemao accused President Kalyan Chaubey and others of harassment during a meeting last month.

In addition, data presented by the Sports Ministry in the Lok Sabha on April 30 revealed that 33 cases of sexual harassment and misconduct involving Sports Authority of India coaches and staff had been reported over the past decade.

At the time of writing, Hockey India has not issued an official public response regarding the allegations.
