24-hour deadline for revolting hockey players

Posted By: Staff

Pune, Jan 12: Unable to reach a amicable solution over the payment row, Hockey India (HI) has reportedly issued an ultimatum asking the revolting players to resume their practice or be prepared to face serious consequences.

The hockey governing body finds itself in a tough spot as players decide to resume their indefinite boycott of the preparatory World Cup camp protesting against the non-payment of dues and incentives for their performance in 2009.

This move from HI comes after the body tried everything to coerce the players into a compromise over the row which started off last week.

On Monday, Jan 11 the body sent a representative Ikram Khan on the hope of reaching a compromise. However, by the end of the day, stern statements of HI president AK Mattoo threatening of suspending the players hit the headlines.

Quoting sources, media reports suggest that the players have been given a 24-hour deadline. They are expected to return to the camp by Tuesday, Jan 11 evening or face disciplinary action.

However, the players seem unfazed by the ultimatum as they have reportedly decided to continue the agitation.
