Hockey team gets Rs 1 crore after revolt

New Delhi, Jan 18: Indian Olympic Association (IOA) Suresh Kalmadi on Monday, Jan 18, handed over Rs 1 crore to hockey players and coaches at the World Cup preparatory camp in Pune.

The cheque with varying individual payments was distributed among all the 22 players and support staff by Kalmadi and Hockey India adviser Anupam Gulati.

The players had on Jan 8 refused to train at the camp insisting on advance payment of their dues from Hockey India.

After failure of their talks with HI authorities, Kalmadi had successfully mediated to bring the players back on the field.

Kalmadi said, "More funds will flow and money would not be a constraint" for hockey players.

He also urged them to focus on their World Cup campaign starting next month.
